- This is slightly different, but I use a WinFaxPro Version 3 in conjunction
- with the Trumpet Winsock, alternating who owns the modem by using the
- shareware package Assassin. WinFax is in my startup and runs continuously
- on my machine, expecting incoming faxes or prepared to transmit them. When
- I want to access the internet via TCPMAN, I execute the Assassin program
- which first "kills" WinFax and then runs TCPMAN, who takes over the modem.
- TCPMAN then dials my service provider and I run my favorite winsock
- applications. When I'm finished with them, I end TCPMAN. Assassin takes
- control again and restarts WinFax. Thus my "fax machine" is always on,
- except for those times it's busy when I'm dialing out to the internet. I
- use this same approach for my Waffle UUCP mail and news. I got Assassin
- at CICA in pub/pc/win3/util as ass_a01.zip.

-
- If you ftp to a mainframe, the privileges are a part of the system.
- The PC doesn't have an person-account environment and hence no
- reference in the files and dirs who owns them and
- which people have access to them. In the qvtnet ftp-server you have
- two options, either set up person-password data with passwd.exe, or allow
- anonymous login.
-
- If a person is registered, he has total access. If you allow
- anon login, they are restricted to the directory given in qvtnet.ini.
-
- You only have these options to play with. I have set up an anonftp directory
- where I place the files interesting to the world. A sub "uploads" points
- out where anons can put files. If you want to protect specific files, just
- put an attrib "r" to it.

- Winsock stands for Windows Socket and is a programming specification. The

- Do yourself a BIG favour and get the latest WinVN (version 0.90.4). You
- won't believe the difference from 0.82
-
- [canned blurb]
- The latest version winvn is always available from
- titan.ksc.nasa.gov (use IP# 128.159.4.20), in the directory
- [.pub.win3.winvn].
- winvnstdXXX is the WINSOCK version
- winvnpwkXXX is the Pathworks/Lanman version
- winvnsrcXXX is the source.
-
- If you need to use ftp-by-mail, use this path instead:
- ripem.msu.edu:/pub/pc/win/winvn/titan.ksc.nasa.gov/

- In mosaic.ini you need the following lines:
-
- [viewers]
- type9="audio/basic" type1, type2... whatever
- audio/basic="p:\mosaic\wplany.exe %ls" Or whatever the path is.
-
- [suffixes]
- audio/basic=.au,.AU,.aud,.AUD
-
-
- In response to a similar question a week or two ago, someone from NCSA
- responded that you MUST use audio/basic. Audio/wav or anything else will not
- work, because, under the HTTP protocol, file typing is done at the server, not
- the client. If you use anything else, the server returns the wrong MIME type
- (whatever that is).
-
- Hope this helps...
